Our Mission

The mission of The Hayward Center for Education & Careers (Adult School) is to provide quality, life long educational opportunities resulting in enhanced workplace skills and bridges to further education as we respond to the needs of our diverse community.

Director's Message

Welcome to a new school year filled with opportunities and promise.  Adult Education plays a vital role in the lives of residents in the City of Hayward.

“The Hayward Center for Education and Careers” still houses the Adult School, as well as, other programs the Hayward Unified School District oversees.

The Adult School provides courses in the following programs:

CTE (Career Technical Education) – many “real-world” job skills are offered, as well as, Certifications.

*Including opportunities for Internships (job experience with local employers)

Citizenship Classes – on Saturdays

ESL (English as a Second Language) Classes

Family Literacy (English Tutoring for Parents) – at several Elementary Schools (Babysitting provided)

GED/HSD - GED Test Preparation & High School Diploma Courses

*Including: Concurrent Enrollment Classes at High Schools

*Coming Soon: High School Credit Recovery at The Hayward Center

Pearson VUE Test Center – GED & Career/Industry Tests

Safety Classes – First Aid & CPR

Youth Enrichment Services (a partnership with Alameda County Workforce Investment Act)

Hours: 7:30 AM to 3:45 PM

Days: Monday through Friday

No class on the following dates:‚Äč

  • November 11 (Veteran's Day)
  • November 23-27 (Thanksgiving Break)
  • December 8-January 3 (No classes)
  • January 18 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day)
  • February 12 (Lincoln's Birthday)
  • February 15 (President's Day)
  • March 31 (Cesar Chavez Day)
  • March 25-April 1 (Spring Recess)
  • May 30 (Memorial Day)

The Hayward Center is proud to offer affordable Day Care services for our enrolled students.
